AUCTION SALES.
Messrs. Carey and Gilles sold by auction, on 16th July, at the yards of Messrs. Calder and Co. a lot of milch cows, at prices ranging from £10 15s. to £17 each. A number of pigs, sold at same time, fetched from 50s. to 70s. each. Messrs. Mueller and Geisow sold by auction, on 16th July, at their rooms, Tay-street, a part of block VI, New River Hundred, containing 72 acres, for £105.- Apphcation No. 890, for 70 acres in same district, was sold for £80. The auction sales have not improved much, and still occur so frequently as to seriously interfere with legitimate trading. On 3rd Aug., Mr. Macdonald held a large clearance sale of the stock of Messrs. Dickson and Co., Dee-street. The following are a few of the prices realised : — -Champagne Vineyard brandy, in bond, 95. ; Martell's, 10s; 9d. j inferior dark, ss. 9d. ; port wine, in casks, £7 10s.; Tennent's ale 7s. • porter, 7s. Tea, in chests, £8 55. ; half-chests, £4 7s. 6d. ; orange pekoe (in boxes), 2s. 3d. per lb. Hams, 9d; ; Bacon, lid.; cheese (cheddar), 6id. ; butter (Colonial), Is. ; rice, 21s. per cwt. ; jams (Colonial), 15s^ 3d. ; Whybraw.'s pickles, 10s.; salad oil (pints)", 65. ; currants, sd. ■■■A [ ■ Messrs. Robertson and Co. sold on Saturday, at the Royal Hotel Sale yards, Tay-street, a mob of mixed cattle. Milch cows fetched oh an averag^ £11 10s., and two year old heifers and steer £7 10a.
