AUSTEALIAN COMMERCIAL.
By tho Gothonburg wo are put in possession of files to tho 30th July. Melbourne. — The Argus of 30th says of the previous clay's markets: — "'Although business is still vory quiet, there were a considerable number of country orders received to-day, and sales to meet trade demands •were made to a considerable extent. A very healthy feeling prevails in the tea market. It is known that stocks of good congous are exhausted in the markets of Sydney, Adelaide, Hobart Town, and the New Zealand ports ; and as the shipments during the present month hare been unusually small, there ia reason to believe that shipping orders will come to hand at au early date — orders which can only be supplied at an advance. The flour market has been still more unsettled by the arrival of the ship T. E. Boyd, from Valparaiso, with flour. Her advicos had not been delivered up to tho hour at which business closed, but the vessel is known to have made a long passage. Her cargo iB indented through Messrs. M'Culloch, Sellar and Co. It was on ofier yesterday, but the uncertainty which possesses men's minds as regards tins article at present prevented business being done. A parcel of Adelaide flour was offered at auction by Messrs. Eraser and Co., but aa the highest price offered was £21 10s. (the reserve having been £23), it was withdrawn. New SouTn Wales. — Wo have our files from New South Wales to the 26th inst. The S. M. Herald of that date sayo : — " Tho flour market continues in a disturbed state, and until we have further news either from California or Valparaiso, purchases will only be made to meet requirements.. Prices at present are, therefore, nominal." * i Sotttii Australia. — Wo have files from South; Australia to the 25th inst. We take tho following' from tho Advertiser of that date : — " Corn mar- | ket : Tho firm prices that have ruled for some ! weeks past have seriously given way, chiefly in consequence of the news from Vaparaiso of tho • low prices there, and of numerous shipments for the Australian Colonies. Tho telegrams from Melbourne have also had a depressing effect, and business is very unsettled, prices being little bettor than nominal." ,
