AUCKLAND.

*,' Speaking of the reported surrender of rebels at Tauranga, the Neta Zealander, of the 18th ult., 'says:—"The-ihformatzc*h brought by Captain Black, of the Hope, on Friday, that rebel Maoris had come in and given up their arms at Tauranga, Twas confirmed oh Saturday by the arrival of the Albatross, schooner, which left Tauranga on Fri-day,-and made a very good passage of some twenty-four hours. The Captain reports that nine rebels Burrenderod their arms to Mi*. Rice, the interpreter, on Wednesday, and five^more^ on Thursday, and that a large force are in the neighborhood almost persuadedjto follow tliis example. They are reported to be in a very destitute condition, and are expected to lay down their arms in a few days. By the arrival yesterday, of tho coloiiial gunboat Sandfly, from Tauranga, vid Kawau, with His Excellency tho Governor on board, we-have further intelligence of the surrender of twenty rebels. - These were brought in by Mr. Rice, the interpreter, and have given up the sword of the gunner of the Miranda, who had his head cut through the centre, with four other swords, and a gold watch. The rebels ih the neighborhood are said to be in a very destitute condition, and there is every probability of their yielding at a very early date. The chief Hopeha, a native magistrate, is a passenger by the Sandfly, and the bearer of some important credentials from Matutaere to His Excellency the Governor. There are likewise Tfive officers of the 68th, six of the 43rd ; and thirteen soldiers amongst the passengers." A daring robbery of jewellery, to the value of £1,000 was perpetrated in Auckland,-on the evening of the 17th. The burglars entered the shop of Mr. R. Beck, during the absence ofthe family at church, and abstracted goods to the above amount. No clue to the thieves up to the leaving of the mail. The Drury correspondent of the 2few Zealander states thafc the commissary and hospital are about removing from Drury to Papakina without any sound reason. About fifty of No. 1 Company of the 4th Waikato Regiment came into Drury on the 15th, and left next morning for Te Awamutu. The Southern Cross, of the 18th ult., has the following : —" We have had private information from Taranaki to the effect that King and a large mob of Maoris had arrived at Mokau. Tliis confirms previous intelligence, to the effect that the Maoris were feeling the pinch of hunger in Auckland, And wero about to migrate southward. Ifc is to be hoped, therefore, that through the exertions of the troops and colonial forces the stores in Taranaki will be reduced, so that they may in no way better themselves by the change." On the 15th ult., a soldier of the Waikato Militia died from the effects of a gunshot wound accidentally inflicted by himself. Deceased's name was Plunkett; he was formerly a sergeant in the 18th Royal Irish. Madame Ghio, better known as tlie " Bearded Lady," appeared before an Auckland audience for the first time on fche 16th ult.
