DENMARK.

The war in Denmark practically stands still, awaiting conclusion of the armistice on 12th June. After the fall of Duppel, the Danish G-overnment issued orders for evacuation of Frederica, a strong fortress in Jutland, which was immediatly occupied by the Austrians. The Danes withdrew to the Island of Fernen, thus entirely evacuating the main land. General Aldet commenced to distroy the works of Frederica, and the Prussians carried out a system imposing heavy fines as war contributions on the inhabitants of Jutland — ostensibly in reprisal for the capture of German shipping. The severity of the treatment excited extreme indignation in England. Since the conclusion of the armistice, the last levying of contributions was continued, but ceased on the remonstrance of Earl Bussell. A well contested naval engagement to»k place on the 9th. The fleets consisted of two Austrian frigates and the Prussian gunboats, and the Danish force, consisting of two frigates and one corvette of Heliogoland. The Austrian frigate Schwarzenburg was thoroughly disabled and set on fire. She lost her foremast and bowsprit. All the. boats had their hulls riddled with shot. The loss of the Schwarzenburg was over 170 lulled and wounded. The Danes lost 14 killed and 54 wounded. The Austrians only escaped capture by taking refuge in' the neutral port of Heliogoland. The -commanders of the Ereneh and English fleets have been ordered to protect foreign residents.
