WBhave received several communications from the "Blufi", 'oii the excessive tariff dues and other rates to which, vessels' arc now subjected at that port- and the result must bo, that much injury wfll "be done to the port if there is not some change. It appears that Tor the privilege of coming alongside the wharf, a charge of -6d. per ton on the registered tonnage is now levied, and as a matter of course, this is paid by shipmasters only "under protest,, and accompanied with an avowal that they will never come alongside the wharf again. This course has been adopted by Sptain g Godfrey, of the.s.s. f. Mrskm and Capt, Wan, of the Vs. Hero. Instead, therefore, of car|o being brought into the inner anchorage these vessels will take cargo no further than the lower anchorage in future. Captain Logan s cargo for the Bluff was 35 tons and the Witage on that cargo £77. On coming to Bluff Harbor he had to pay his pilot fees, and £19 2s. 6d. of wharfage rates, which for such a trifling .cargo i. absurdly exorbitant. Such a tariff will never be workable in this port, and it will be well that the immediate attention of the authorities bo given to it. Tho following is tho -'■■■ Table ot Charges. VESSELS. £ c. d.
