Some fresh ground was tried just behind the Golden Age.iiulel, on Friday last, on the terrace of the river, and a pretty good prospect obtained, which soon caused a rush, and the whole of the ground, which is very limited, was soon pegged out, including Lochart's, Wilson's, and other btores, although the goods could not be moved. Diggers arc setting iv within a mile of Canvas Town, 'on both sides of the river. A township is | being formed at the Forks, at. the junction. In consequence oi* tiie wet weather, and many of | the claims being under water, many ofthe miners 1 left,thotJ(3 goldfields for the rush to tho Wairuu. ! Business is very dull, and the price of articles j very low. Bread, 2s. fid. 4 lb. loaf; beef, Is. 3d.; ! mutton, Is. ; ham and bacon, 2s. Gd. per lb. ; tea, Ids.; sugar. lOd. ; buller, 2s. GJ. ; cheese, 25.; I potatoes ami onions, Sd. per lb.
