ROUTE FROM VICTORIA TO THE LAKE GOLDFIELDS.
The shortest route is ym Invereargill, which is at least one day nearer Victoria than . Dunedin. The steamers Gothenburg, Aldinga, and Alhambra call regularly: at tlie I Bluff, which is distant from town 20 miles. From Invereargill the North Road is.foUowed,-leginning -at-Dee- ~ street. About four and a half miles from town tive road turns to the leftr,'dnd from thence to the foot of the Lake the main line of road should be kept. By this: route^ the distan^eris ohly'92 miles from Invereargill, ihe road pet-, fectly level, and there are accommodation, houses all the way. From Dunedin via Kingston (foot of the Lake),' the distance is 220 miles? via the Dimstan, j 150 miles. This latter road is mountainous to a degree. . ' '' '
