DUNEDIN TRADE REPORT.
(From the Witness, of 25 th June.) It was not to be expected that so soon after the great rush to Picton, and in the depth of whiter, trade would be very brisk ; but, considering all that has transpired to depress the markets, business has not been affected to the extent that might be anticipated. Up-country traders, now that their stocks are reduced, and miners are again settling down to work, with the prospect of a great rush beyond tho Lake Country, in the early spring, are disposed to lay in supplies, but the bad state of the roads, and the advance in cartage, prove, for the present, serious impediments. Flour is still firm at £35 per ton for Adelaido, and sellers requiro net cash, even at that price. At present there appears no prospect of a fall in prices, but an arrival would cause an immediate decline. On Tuesday, the flour damaged by tho wreck of the Scotia sold by auction in two lots. The largest lot (200 tons), which was very much damageJ, sold at £15. Tlie second lot (200 bags) brought £29. The stocks of teas are at present heavy, but since the arrival of the English mail, several parcels have changed hands at advanced prices. Candles. — Good brands, in full weights, are getting scarce, and holders are not disposed to Bell, unless at an advance. Price, 11 £cL to ls. OJcL Butter has not altered since last quotations, but the general feeling seems . to . be that an advance in price may shortly be expected. News from England, shows that only 50 firkins of Cork were shipped for New Zealand during tho month, and the price is quoted at 112s. per cwt. in Cork. In Cheese, there is no alteration, and tho market is fully stocked. No sale for Colonial or Provincial. . v*»
