The prospects of tho goldfields aro highly encouraging, The comparatively small quantity of gold convcved by tho police must not be taken as a criterion of "tho value of the goldfields, as many persons observed, had notice been given of the approach of the escort, a very large quantity of gold would havo been forthcoming. Tho amount brought down consisted of 1,736 ozs. 5 dwts. Two men contributed 250 ozs. of this amouut, almost at the departure of tho escort.
