DUNEDIN HORSE MARKET.

Mcsrs. Driver, M'Lean and Co.'* report of 30<h May uays -.—The trade for the last few weeks lias been extremely dull, being influenced greatly by the exodus ol i lv- mining population for the Pelorus diggings. The miners coming down from the Dunslun mid elsewhere with their horses, willing and wir-ldul to sell them ar almost any price, in order to visit the new .El Dorado, caiu-.'d the market to become very depressed, and groat reduction in prices; the news of late, however, not being of so encouraging a nature, has determined many not to visit Pieton, but to return lo the scenes ot former operations ; this coupled with the fact of the return of many miners, has given the market a much healthier tone, ami caused prices to advance, and a tolerable amount of business for the last fortnight may be quoted as having boen done. The arrivals "for the past month number about 200 head, including those per Bengal and Omeo, the greater part of winch have been sold at a figure, we fear, which will not pay the shippers. The trade during the last week ha.< made a decided turn for the better for all descriptions of stock, and taking all things into con.-ideratiou we imagine this improvement will continue. The current rates (11 . c — I'n-st-elass heavy draught horses .1:50 to £70 ; second do., £30 to £42; really first-class hacks (scarce) .t'os to :CS.S; good coaehers and light harness £15 to £23: second class light harness, £15 to k.'l'o; packers and inferior iight harness £8 to £18.
