DUNEDIN LIVE STOCK MARKET.
We extract the following from the report of Messrs. Driver, M'Lean, and Co., in the Otago Daily Times of 30th May : — Fat Cattle. — The market has been well supplied wiih cattle of fair and ordinary quality. We have to no! ice a decided improvement in the demand for prime quality, which we quote at about 555. per 100 lbs. A large proportion of the cattlo offered were of very ordinary quality ; a small mob from the station of Messrs. Orbcll were yarded on Saturday, and realised barely store prices. We can scarcely expect any material improvement in value of fat cattle, while stores continue to be forced upon the trade. We have sold various lot's, including Messrs Tcschemakcrs, 'Fulton's, Millar's, Dalyrmple's, and others, at from £12 to £22 10s., according to weight and quality. Fat Calves are in good demand, at from £3 10s. to £5 10s. Stoke Cattle. — We notice a slight change in the feeling lately exhibited towards this description of stock ; but few lots, however, have changed hands, as holdeas will not submit to any material reduction in prices. We think that healthy wellbred cattle will ere long come into good request, as importations arc now entirely stopped, and we doubt if the Province wdl long be able to supply the demand for beef. We have sold 325 head, at from £7 10s. to £11 10s., according to ages and condition. Fat Sheep -r-This market has been completely glutted during "tlie past month — over 5,000 fat wethers having arrived by seaboard, besides several large lots from stations inland. A large proportion of these were disposed of at greatly reduced rates, and the market still remains fully supplied. After present stocks are worked off, we anticipate .^improvement in prices, but hot sufficient to advise further shipments from foreign ports. A large number passed through our hands at from 21s. to 28s. < Stoee Sheep. — The importation of store sheep, to, this 'market, niay now be considered at an end, as '.price's lately realised offer no inducement to shippers. With the exception of young Provincial bred ewes, we liave but few inquiries. Our quotations are — for wethers (Provincial bred), 235. to 255. ; ditto imported, 18s. to 205. ; ewes, (Provincial bred), 2, 4, and 6-tooth, 275. 6d. to SOs. ; ditto imported, 225. 6d. to' 255. We have sold various lots at above prices. ■;*'*,*■ Station -Properties.— There is an active demand for first-class properties: We have' sold the ' Wakaia station, on the Mataura- river.
