Sib. — In your first publication (long life to ; you) I read the remarks ; and queries. of "An Old -Volunteer j*"" and' as an, old "boss" Of mine', used ; emphatically to say, when he agreed with anything, previously expressed, "I heartily .endorse 'em." But a day ago I. took tho liberty of enquiring at one of the- committee why business: was not proceeded with, and his . candid wa3, "I don't -know"— Something was muttered ' about waiting on a reply from .Auckland, and ' there I was left— wise as before. ... No.w,.Jf I am rightly informed, there is no necessity for this ; "red tapeism"— viz., official recognition, which is sur. to come, though nobody knows when. Ini the meantime those -enrolled could be getting! through the prehminary exercises, such a3 "setting up .drill," and mastering the difficulties of the "goose step." I therefore indignantly ask what; our committee are doing? and hope you will apply the lash some of these days. — I am, &c. ." "* . A .YOUNG VOLUNTEER.
