ROUTE FROM VICTORIA TO THE LAKE GOLDFIELDS.
The shortest route is via Invei'cargill, which is at least one day nearer Victoria than ADunedSn. The steamers Gothenburg, ■ Aldinga, and Alhambra call regularly at the Bluff', which is distant from town 20 miles. From Invercargill the North Road isfolloived, beginning at ADeestreet. Aboxitfour and a half miles from town ihe road him.? to the left, and from thence to the foot of the Lalce the main line of road shoidd be kept. By this route the distance is only 92 miles from Invercargill, the road perfectly level, and there are accommodation houses all the way. From Dunedin via Kingston- (foot of the LaheJ, the distance is 220 miles; via the Dunstan, 150 miles. This latter road is mountainous to a degree.
