A message was received from his Honor the Superintendent, containing 'a ■ request from his Honor to the Council to state its reasons for requiring an investigation in reference to the works of the Blufl" Harbour and Invereargill Railway. Mr CALDER moved that the Deputy Speaker forward to his Honor the Superintendent the evidence which had been taken by the Select Committee on the subject as the reasons for the Council making such a request. ' - Mr COWAN seconded the motion, which was agreed to. POSTPOKEHEST OF THE COESIDERATIOX OF ; THE • :^ - ■--:'■ „.;■. - ESTIMATES. ,, y „- : '' . Mr TARLTON, on being' 'called 'on to more the first Order ! of the .Daye- theconsidera'tion of the Estimates — said it would have given the Government great pleasure had it been possible to, reconsider and reconstruct the Estimates, and to have brought them forward that night ; but as- they did not wish to bring them -'forward in a mutilated- istate, he; had to ask to be allowed; to .postpone their consideration. The Government intended to devote time and cousineration to each item, and to" carefully examine each individual expenditure.
