AUCKLAND.

NVe extract the following from the Nfw Zeahiiidcv : -During the past* week little has occurred that calls for remark ; business has been very quiet, and even speculation in land is at a discount. The only -event worth recording was Mr Coohra tie's sale of land :\X Newton in the suburbs, on Tuesday last. ;st which the prices ruling were those of bona tide occupiers, and not mere speculators. This sale will prove a guide to the value of suburban lands for some time to come. Wheat and Hour are the same, and we quote last week's prices : Silk dressed Hoar at LIT : seconds, Lll ; and sharps at LlO per 10001 b. Bran is a shade dearer, being quoted at 2s por bushel : onr latest advices from the other colonies respecting breadstuff's lead us to infer that flour will not there materially advance in price, whatever it may do here. Brandy i.s dull of sale, and although we do not ijuote a lower price for a good article, therejis a large quantity of inferior pale in the market for which no price can be named. Gin is still depressed, at auction a pretty large parcel was placed at 7s 6d to 10s per case of 31 gallons, which could not have hardly covered the original cost at horned Rum is steady at former quotations ; there is no alterations in wines or tobacco. The stock of all the above articles is very large. Beer.s in bulk still a drug. Boots and shoes have beeu sold at auction during the week at rates merely covering cost and charges, and earthen and glassware at hardly as much. There seems to be a steady trade opening with Melbourne, and from which we anticipate good results.
