THE REWARD CLAIMED.

J. H. Moses, ]&jsc[, , the Hon. See. of the Southland Prospecting Association, has handed us the following communication for publication. From the high character Mr. Basstian holds in the Province, we presume he knows more than he says, or he would not have claimed the reward ; at the same time, we would warn all parties against " rushing " the ground recklessly until,' at least, more than three pennyweights have come to hand. "We append the communications as w.e received them :— . To the Editor of the Inosreargill Times. Sir, — I have much pleasure in handing you the enclosed documents for insertion, by which the public will find that, although Mr, Basstian gives all the information he can and has handed me the prospect obtained, about 3 dwts., he leaves the opening up of the locality to others who know more of mining than he does. At the same time, from the well known honor of Mr. Basstian, the public may rely on the information as far as it goes. The payable nature andextent of the field will now depend on the energy and experience of those who may choose to follow up the information given, and I am sure it is the general wish that their endeavours to open a good one may be successful. I am, sir, Yours truly, J. H. Moses, Hon. Sec. Southland Prospecting Association. Tay-strect, February 27th, 186-1. Mr. J. 11. Moses, Hon. Sec, Southland Prospecting Association. Sir, — I herewith notify you that I put in my claim for the He ward of £1500 offered by the Southland Prospecting Association, in accordance with then* advertised notice of Nov. 18th, 18G1. I also enclose you full particulars of the locality, and the prospect found, and wish it understood that I give the information for what it is worth ; the future payablcness of the field must- depend on those who are more practically acquainted with gold mining than I am, I am, Sir, Yours truly, C. Basstia>\ Invcrcargill, February 27th, 1864.
