General Meeting.
Present : Messrs. Reynolds (chair) ; Calder, Beaven, Jaggers and Garthwaite. The minutes, of last meeting were read and confirmed, '"-.;' CORRESPONDENCE. The following letter from" T. Heale was read. " Cliief Surveyor's Office, Southland, " 25th January, 1864. " Sir, — In accordance with the request contained in your letter of December 31st, I have directed Mr. Butler carefully to re-survey the main lines of the town, and to erect eight alignment posts in the positions wMch. appeared to mc most convenient for determimng the lines of the streets and the positions of sections. " In executing this work I directed Mm also to .ascertain how far the blocks of buildings in the most eontinuosly occupied streets accorded with their true, positions. " I enclose herewith copy of Mr. Butler's report to me ; from it you will sec that the main outlines of the town arc remarkably correct, indeed the external lines and boundaries are absolutely so, the only error discovered being on some few of the blocks wliich have been builfc upon, of wliich the frontages have been unduly expanded at the expense of some of the streets. " This is especially the case with Blocks "_ , IH., and XL, wMch, with the street betwe . them have been extended to six links beyov '. their true position at the west side of Jclstreet, and on the east side of that street is correctly placed, the street is there oMy 94 links wide, or four feet less than it ought to be. " Similarly the three southern blocks in Dee-street have had their frontages enlarged so as to leave Spey-street curtailed by tMee links. "Of course it will be for the Town Board to consider whether they will take any steps to compel the rectification of these faidty blocks where the temporary buildings now erected and replaced by permanent ones ; but ' with ordmary care on the part of siu-veyors • and builders all future errors may be avoided by taking all measurements from the alignment posts. " I have the honor to bo, sir, " Your very obedient servant, "Theos. Heale, " CMef Surveyor. " Mr. Hunter, Clerk of the Town Board." A letter from Messrs. Burgoyne, requesting payment of balance of account for Tay-street cutting, was then read. Moved by Mr. , Calder — "Thafc Messrs.
