IN FORCE FROM AND AFTER Ist OCTOBER, 1803. Letters. — 1. Inland Lutters. — From any part of New Zealand to any other part of New Zealand:— Not exceeding half iw ounce, 'id ; exceeding half an ounce and not exceeding: one ounce, 4d ; exceedingone ounce and not exceeding two ounces, Sd; and so on, increasing- four pencj for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 2. To the United Kingdom.— By Southampton or by direct ship: — Not exceeding half an ounce, lid ; exceeding- half an ounce aud not exceeding- one ounce, Is ; exceeding one ounce and not exceeding two ounces, -2s ; and so on, increasing one shilling for every additional ounce or fraction of au ounce. By Marseilles.— Not exceeding- half an ounce in wei <r ht, lod ; t-xceedinir hall an ounce and not exceeding- one ounce, Is Sd ; exceeding one ounce and not exceeding two ounces, .is 4d; exceeding two ounces and not exceeding- three ounces, (is 8d; every ounce after the first, is Sd. 3. To British oloiiies and Foreign Countries. To Syria and Turkey. Letters will be forwarded via Alexandria and Jaffa (unless marked for transmission via the ■ United Kingdom), and will be charged as follows:-- I Not exceeding half an ounce, lid; exceeding half an ounce and not exceeding one ounce, Is lod ; and so on, increasing one shilling and ten pence for overy additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 7. To China and the ii::stem Arehinplag-o.— Letters addressed to Hong-kong-, l'ennng-, Singapore, any part oi China or Japan, the Philippine Islands, I Juvsi, Sumatra, Borneo, Liibimu, the Moluccas, and Siain, are chargeable as follows : — Net exceeding half an ouuee, Is; exceeding- half nu ounce and not exceeding- one ounce, and so on, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce fraction of an ounce. 8. To Naval Officers on Foreign Stations : — Letters addressed to Ulticers serving on hoard any of Her Majesty's ships on "a foreign station, when sent through the United Kingdom, are chargeable as follows: — Not exceeding half un ounce, Is; exceeding half au ounce and not exceeding one ounce, -2s; exceeding one ounce aud not exceeding two ounces, 4s; and so oil, increasing two shillings for every additional ounce or fraction of an ounce. 9. To Naval Seamen and Soldiers.— Letters sent to or by Seamen and Soldiers in Her Majesty's Service will be transmitted within the colony, and between the colony aud any Post Office in the British dominions", at a charge of one penny, provided that the following regulations .-ire observed: — (I) Each letter must not exceed half an ounce in weight, (-i) It must be superscribed with the name of the: writer his description or class in the vessel or regiment, and signed by the Officer at the time in eommuud. (a) The -postage must be prepaid. Every letter of this description, posted or received in this colony, not in accordance with the foregoing regulations, will be treated its an ordinary letter. The postage upon these letters must in all cases be paid in advance. 10. Free Letters.— Letters on the Public Service of Her Majesty's Naval and Military Forces are exempted from the payment of postage, if henring the words "On Her Majesty's Service," and the signature of the Officer in command of the force on the service of which the letter is despatched. But such letters cannot be transmitted Ly nny irresular route, or one entailing additional expense on the Colonial Government. Letters on the Public Service of the General Governmout of the Colony are transmitted free by post, if bearing the words 'On the Public Service" only," and the signature of 'some officer of the General Government authorised to frank official letters, ti. Registered Letters.— Registration fee, Is, in addition to the ordinary pos°tuge chargeable on any letter— except in special cases. Nfiwsr.^Eßs.— l. To any part of the colony, the Australian colonies, or to the United Kingdom via Southampton: — Not exceeding four ounces, 4tl ; exceeding four ounces and not exceeding eight ounces, Sd ; exceeding eight ounces and not exceeding sixteen ounces, Is 4d : and so on, increasing eight pence for every additional half-pound or traction of half a pound. -2. To the following British colonies': — Ascension, Bermuda, British West Indies, Canada, Cape of Good Hope, Falk.la.nd Islands, Gambia, Gold Coast, Heligoland, lonian Islands, Natal, New Brunswick., Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, l'rince Edward Island, St. Helena, Sierra Leone, and Vancouver's Island: — Not exceeding four ouuees, 7d; exceeding four ounces and not exceeding eight ounces, Is 2d; exceeding eight ounces and not exceeding sixteen ounces, 2s -id; and so on, increasing- one shilliug and two pence for every half-pound or fraction of half a pound. Banker's Parcels, containing only Bank Notes, Orders, Bills, and Promissory Notes, Cheques, Pass Books, or Bank. Returns, sent by or to any bank, or banker within the colony (provided such parcel are securely closed and sealed, and contain no letter or communication ia the nature of a lettpi , and bear, along with the addres3 of such parcel, the words " Banker's Parcel, without letter," subscribed by the sender of such parcel, with his name and address), shall be received as book, packets, aud shall be transmitted, within the colony, at the same rate as book packets. .Regulations.— Prepayment by Stamps.— All lettersi packets, and newspapers, if liable to postage, posted hi New Zealand, must be prepaid by affixing postage labels of the colony of sufficient vahic.
