SOUTHLAND PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT GAZETTE.

The following official notifications appealed in the Gazette of yesterday : — Proclamation by James A. R. Menzies, Esq., Superintendent of the Province of Southland. In Pursuance of the power in me vested, I do hereby proclaim and declare that the Waste Lands of the Crown, comprised within the boundaries hereinafter described, shall be Quarantine Grounds within the meaning of, and under the provisions of the " Diseased Cattle Act, 1861. 1. Bounded on the North by a right line r'rawn from trigonometrical station W, on the Ocean Beach ; eastwards to the River Oreti, at the bomh-west angle of Block XVII., Invercargill Hundred ; on the east, south, and west by the Oreti River and Estuary and the ocean. 2. Bounded on the north by the Ferry Reserve, New River Hundred ; on the east by the west boundary of Block 1., of the said Hundred to ics intersection of the Tomoporakau stream ; thence by the Tomoporakau to the Riverton Road ; on the south by ihe Riverton Road to the Oreti River, on the weal by the Oreti River. 3. Bounded on the north-west by a right line drawn from trigonometrical station G.G., Invercargill Hundred, to the east angle of Section 5, Block XVTL, of the said Hundred ; on the south-west by a right line drawn from the said Section 5. towards the south-west angle of section 9, Block 111. of the said Hundred, until the said line cuts the Estuary of Waihopai , on the east by the said Estuary. Regulations under Provisions of " Dsieaseu Cattle Act, 1861." Iv pursuance of the power in me vested I, James A. R. Menzies, Esquire, Superintendent of the Province of Southland, do hereby mske and issue the following Regulations for the management of Quarantine Grounds within the Province of Southland. 1. It sh'Ml be lawful for an Inspector of Cattle, appointed under the said Act, if he shall thi'ik fit to direct that Cattle reasonably suspected to be infected with Pleuro-pneu-monia, or any otlur infectious or contagious disease, shall be removed to the nearest Quarantine Ground, th^re to remain until the said Inspector permits the same to be removed. 2. The owner or person in charge of an y animal sent to the Quarantine Ground, by order of the Inspectors, shall pay to the said Inspector a fee of 10s for every such animal. 3. The person who shall be appointed to take charge of the Quarantine Ground, shall burn or bury the remains of any animal which shall die in quarantine, and for every such animal so dying, the owner or person having charge of it before it was sent into quarantine shall pay to the Inspector a fee of ss, to compensate for the subsequent expenses. 4. Any person hindering or preventing tlie removal to any Quarantine Ground of any cattle so reasonably suspected of being infected as aforesaid, which shall have been directed by the Inspector to be removed to such Quarantine Ground, or in any way offending against those regulations, shall forfeit and pay any sum not less than one pound, nor more than oue hundred pounds. Colonial Secretary's Office, Auckland, 21st December, 1863. Sir, — The General Assembly has appropriated out of the Colonial Revenue for this year, the sura of Two thousand pounds (£2000), towards a Patriotic Fund for the support of the wives and families of those of Her Majesty's Regular and Colonial Forces who have fallen, and imiy hereafter fall, in the course of the present war in this Colony. I am sure that the inhabitants and Le islatures of each Province will be anxious to contribute to a fund which has for its benevolent object the succour and relief of those who, by the loss of their husbands and parents in battle, or by death on active service in the present war, are unable to maintain or support themselves. I gladly, therefore, invite your Honor's co-operation in this matter, by requesting you to be good enough to give general , publicity to the intention of the General Assembly, and to take such other steps as may appear to your Honor to be calculated to give it additional effect.
