Public Notices. PROSPECTUS OF THE "RIVERTON WEEKLY TIMES." Head Office :— Riveeton. (Agents for Invercargill •• Times Office,Ta.y street.) TN announcing the establishment of a Journal to JL represent the interests of tho Western District of the Province of Southland, its promoters would take this opportunity for briefly explaining the objects they have in view, together with tho course of action they propose to adopt. It will be their aim to co-operate with the two local Journals which have already been so successful in forwarding the development of the natural resources of the Province, and in advancing its claims to a fair and equitable measure of Legislative consxleration, without which its material advancomeut never can attain to the permanent footing its numerous capabil.ties are so well adapted to secure. At the same time; such co-operation will always be conducted with a primary regard to the Western Dictrict of the Province. The Harbor of Rivert.on has a geographical position that constitutes it the first port of call in the direct line of communication between Victoria nnrl the other produce markets of the Southern Hemisphere; this fact will receive the special attention of the " Riveiiton Timks," and no effort will be lost to impress upon the Provincial Government the reeessity that exists for having it imiretliafely placed upon a footing that will reenmmend it to shippers generally as a port of discharge. The advantages Riverton possesses as affording the shortest and easiest access to the Wakatip goldfields — which have proved the richest yet discovered —will be brought prominently forwnrd, so that every inducement will be afforded for Riverton and the Western District generally deriving the full extent of advantage to which its relationship to the Wakatip District entitles it to sustain. As it appears to be the current belief that the lead of the gold follows in the direction of the Western boundary of the Province — while this Journal will be careful to lend every aid to the furtherance of the pastoral and agricultural interests, it will not fail to be watchful of every movement, whether Provincial or otherwise, that may have for its object the development of the mineral resources. The latest local, commercial, trade reports and price lists issued by the Home or other colonial markets, will bo carefully selected, so that every opportunity will be taken advantage of for placing the merchants of this district in a position to compete with traders in other parts of the Province as well as those located in neighboring ProvincesThe Proprietors of the Eivei'ton Times need not remind those to whom they must look for countenance and support, that tho carrying out of their object efficiently will entail a very lai'ge expenditure, and that, therefore, they expect advantage will be taken <if their advertising columns to an extent that will warrant them prosecuting their endeavors to a successful issae. At the same time, the Proprietors would beg leave to call the attention of the Merchants and Traders of Invercargill and other places to the favorable medium this journal will afford tor opening up a connection with the residents of the Western District of the Province. The first issue of the Riverton Times will be published on Saturday, the 2nd January, 1864, and weekly thereafter till further notice. Subscriber's names will be received at the following places: — Bank of Nrw Zealand, the stores of Messrs Surman and Crerar, Mr D. Munro, Mr R Mills, Messrs Daniel and Teek, and at the Royal Hotel. R.
