TOWN BOARD.
Monday, 4tr Janva*t, 1864. The Board held a special meeting at six o'clock. Present— the Chairman, Messrs Jaggers, Re3'nolds, Garthvraite, Lockhart, M'lvor, Grieve, Scandrett, Calder, Beaven, and Livesey. ; : V SPECIAL ASBESSMEKT FOR TUB TAT BTBEET GRATKCGS. Messrs Oalder and Bearen, the Sub-Com-mittee appointed "for the purpose, brought up their report on the best method to adopt in making the assessment for the Tay street gratings. The report was as follows : — One sixth of the principal sum of £3.333 10s, to be paid each year, would amount' to L 555 lla Id, and to this the annual interest upon the remaining debt hein<f added, would make tho yearly payments as follow: — Ist year, L 822 6«; "2nd year, £777 l<k *d ; 3rd year, £733 6a lOd; 4th year, £688 18s lOd ; sth year, £644 9* 2dj 6thi year, £600 os6d. ■ ■-'-" ■'-■■• In the discussion that ensued on the report, the question was raised as to the advisability of striking the rate for the whole six years in order to fix the exact "sum to be raised; but the majority: of the BoardT were of opinion that such a course would be unfair to the present occupants of .property in Tay street, who might not be the owners in future. It. -was shown (much to' the surprise of some of some' of the Board)' that the first year's assesmen t would be at the rate of 3s 4d per foot frontage for the - first year, which would ho.wever, be_ proportionately decreased in ' each • Succeeding year. It was understood that it .could. ; be; optional'for the occupants of property to pay the whole of the six jear's- assessment at once; thus siving the accumulating interest on the money. — - The report was . adopted, land tho tate ordered to be struck. _ ; APPOINTMENT OF EKOIMSBH TO THE BOABD.
