DUNEDIN LIVE STOCK MARKET.

Dbiveb, Maclean & Co's report for the week •tiding 18th December, 1863. — The market during the past week has been quieter than we have known it for several monthß past, in consequence of very few lots of good stork being at present on hand for sale. There is still • very fair demand for prime fat cattle, and good strong well bred stores at payable rates, but inferior weak cattle are almost unsaleable at any price. The following consignments have arrived in port during the week :— The Oregon, from Welshpool, with 180 head fat and store cattle; the Ererton, from Twofold Bay, with 322 head store bullocks; Ihe Jessie Munn/fr'om Twofold Bay, with 20&-hi»ad sfrore btillockp, and a few working

bullocks; EinprSsS" Eugenic/from, Welshpoo',with 180 head fat ami store cattle; the Omeoi from switli leop fat wethers (which unfortunately turned out diseased) ; the Champion' of the Seas,' with 7boo.young ewes, now being landed at Waikouaiti, where they are to. be delivered ; the Summer Cloud,' 'from, Adelaide; with 100 fat wethers, medium quality. ¥Xt Cattik.— Tnere has beon 140 h^ad yarded during the week of good and medium quality — 55 " bulloiSks and covite, ex Oregon, from Gipp9 Land, which wo sold at from 1.17 to L 24, averting L2l 10s; and 85 head, ox E npress Euarenie, from same place, sold at trom Lll 103 to L 26 10s, or equal ro ti'iout 603 per lOOlbr. Fat Calves are still very scarce, and worth from LI to L 7, according to weight and quality. SroBE Catt&r. — We have no particular change to note for this description of stock. The demand for strong healthy well bred cattle still continues quite equal to importations, but we thiuk aa the season advances, a slight reaction is likely to take place. We have sold 228 head, ex John Ternperly, from Twofold B»y (a very thin lot), at L 9 per head, and several other s- 1 all lots at from LlO 10s to Ll3, according to age and condition. We biive numerous enquiries for good Provincial cattle, but there «re few lots offering. We quote bullocks over 2£ years old, from L.12 to Ll3 ; mixed herds (Provincial), from LlO 10s to Ll2 13i, according to description and place of delivery. Working Bcixocks and Daiet Cows.— Fur the former the demand is now very limited, and unless really good, ye v little above store price can be obtained for them. Young, quiet, wellbred dairy cows are much inquired for, and are wort h from LlB to L2--7 SHB HP,— There have only been 450 yarded (medium quality) , which were all taken by the trade at fair rates. We quote best mutton 8d to 9d per 1b ; medium do. 7d to 8 1. Stoke Shesp.— The demand for Provincial ewes and wethersof good ages continues active, but we do not hear of any transactions having taken plswe in this class during the week. By the Champion of the Seas we have to hand 7,000 young ewes, which were aold to arrive, and are now being landed at Waikouaiti for delivery. We quote imported ewes 2 and 4 tooth, 25s to 28i; wethers, 23s to 255. Station Properties. — The Centre Hill, Bellamy, nnd Almondale stations Were offered by auction by us on the 28th instant]; there being little or no competition th-jy were all withdrawn. We have no other transactions to report, Houses — The trade sti 1 continues to be somewhat flat f r every description of stuck arriving. The demand eontinups to run upon litjht harne»3 horses and packers, whilst heavy draught horses seem to be entirely neglectel owing solely to the present low rates of cartage between here and the mining districts. We would a>;nin remind our nurae:w consigners to be mindful to use great judgment in the selection of stock lor this market. Well-bred powerful hackneys, young and sound, and Jij^nt harness horses must at all times command attention, but we must again caution importers to let used-up screws alone. During the week wo hnve deposed of the following lots, ex Star, from Melbourne (Mr Wiggin's consignment) at an average of L2l 10s ; Messrs Lynch and Ross's at an average of Li2B si; Mr Gilbank's avorneed Ll9 10s fMr F. Murphy ,s lot, 1..1S lOt>. Ti.e prices current are: — First class heavy dratigrht, from L6O to LBO ; 2nd do do, f ram 1.40 to L6O ; inferior dodo, from L2O to L 4-); superior well bred hacks L3O to LSO ; light harness horses and packers, L22-to L 35; inferior do do, Ll2 to LI B.
