Monday, 21st DkcesTber. (Before M. Price, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness.— Six names ornamented the list of drunkard*. Five of their owners were fined in amounts from 5s to to 40s, proportionate to their excesses ; the sixth having deposited good and sufficient bail for his appearance, forfeited the amount. . ■ Destitution.-^!. M. Whitelock, a halfcaste Maori, who had been brought up from River ton on a charge of vagrancy, was remanded, in order that he might be sent to the Hospital, as he appeared to be suffering from sickness as well as want. Insanity. —J. C- Jones, who had been previously before the Court on a charge of insanity, w:?s again brought up. The man, it appeared, was originally charged with being concerned in the robbery of Mr Acton, near Switzer's, on his voluntary statement, when, ** from his strange condudt, he was detained as a lunatic. Since then he had beenre-arre. # as he had been threatening to commit suicide. The Bench granted a remand for the purpose of medical examination. / Civil Cases, carey & gillkß v. labcbnt. Mr Weston appeared for the plaintiffs ; Mr South for the defendant. An action to recover £73 10s under the following crcumstances : — The defendant had instructed the plaintiffs to sell a horse for him, giving them instructions at the same time to give a warranty that the horse was staunch to a certain weight. The horse was sold to a Mr Hamilton, who found on making the trial that the horse was a " rank jib." He therefore returned the horse to xtior plaintiffs, who refunded him the amount, which they had however previously paid to defendant, the present action being for the recovery thereof. After hearing -O. great amount of evidence, the Bench postponed docisidn. BARTER AND ANOTHER V MAHARG. An action to recover £89 12s for work and labor done. Verdict for plaintiffs with costs.
