Miscellaneous. PROSPECTUS OP TIIE "RIVERTON WEEKLY TIMES." Head Office •— Rivertos. (Agents for Invercargill : Times Offico,Tay street.) TN announcing the establishment of a Journal to x represent the interests of tho Western District of the Province of Southland, its promoters would take this opportunity for briefly explaining the objects they linve in view, together with the course of action they propose to adopt. It will be their aim to co-operate with the two local Journals which have already been so successful in forwarding the development of the natural resources of the Province, and in advancing its claims to a fair and equitable measure of Legislative consideration, without which its material advancement never can attain to the permanent footing its numerous capabilities are so well adapted to secure. At the same time, such co-operation will always bo conducted with a primary regard to the Western. Dictrict of the Province. The Harbor of Riverton has a geographical position that constitutes it the first port of call in the direct line of communication between Victoria nnd the other produce markets of the Southern Hemisphere; .this fact will receive the special attention of the " Riveiiton Times," and no effort will be lost to impress upon the Provincial Government the roceesity that exists for having it immediately placed upon a footing that will recommend it to shippers generally as a port of disclmrge. Tiie advantages Riverton possesses as affording iho shortest and easiest access to the Wakatip gold fields — which have proved the richest yot discovered —will be brought prominently forward, so that every inducement will be afforded for Jticerton nnr] the Western JMstrict genera)]}' deriving the full extent of advantage to which its relationship to the Wakatip District entitles it to sustain. As it appears to he the current belief that the lead of the gold follows in the direction of the Western boundary of the Province — while this Journal will be careful to lend every aid to the furtherance of the pastoral and agricultural ioteres's, if; will not fail to be watchful of every movement, whether Provincial or otherwise, that may have for its object the development of the mineral resources. The latest local, commercial, trade reports and price lists issued by the Home or other colonial markets, will be carefully selected, so that every opportunity will be taken advantage of for placing the merchants of this district in a position to compete with traders in other parts of the Province as well as those loented in neighboring ProvincesThe Proprietors of the Riverton Times need not remind those to whom they must look {or countenance and support, tbat the carrying out of their object efficiently will entail a very lnrgo expenditure., and that, therefore, they expect advantage will be taken of their advertising columns to an esfent that will warrant them prosecutini: their endeavors to a successful issue. At the same time, the Propi'ietovs would beg leave to call the attention of the Merchants and Traders of Invercnrgill and other places to the favorable medium this journal will afford tor opening up a connection with the residents of tho Western District of flic Province. The first issue of the Hiverton Times will be published on Satitrdav. the 2nd January, 1864, and weekly thereafter till further notice. B. OSBOItNE CARRICK & CO., Proprietors.
