Wo beg to remind our; readers that the Amateur Concert, in aid of the Chudcb. of England Building ! Fund will take place to-morrow.- - The Committee j have made a very judicious alteration in their j arrangements. At first ifc was; their ir*ct^ion to j make tbe concert a fiill dress one; but as that was deemed impracticable, they have agreed to relax the too stringent regulations on that head. The amateurs who will perform on the occasion have beon most assiduous in practising, so that we may safely augur a success. I "It will be seen by a no. ice in another column 'that tbc wreck of the ill-fated brig Locliiuvar is to be sold on Friday next, by. Messrs Robertson and ;Co, at the stores' of Messrs D. & J. Mitchell, in Tay street, at 12 o'clock. A portion of the cargo, more or less damaged, wi 1 be disposed off at tho same-time. T In a leading article in our issue of Friday, in consequence of a misprint, a quo'ation was giren incorrectly. It should have read — '• And ecntle winds and waters near i* - Make music to the lonely ear." We heard -yesterday that a man had been arrested at tbe Mokomoko, on suspicion of being one of the men who stuck up Mr Acton and robbed- him a few weeks since. At a special meeting oflhe Town Board, held at 12 o'clock on 'Saturday, it was unanimously agreed to petition the members of the General Assembly to bring in and pass, a bill creating Invercargill a Municipality. Messrs Garthwaite, Reynolds, M'lvor, and Giller, were appointed as Sub-Committee, to confer with Mr Weston — the council to the- Board, as to the drawing up of the necessary petition, and to obtain other requ isite information on the subject. The subject was mooted as to the advisabilityof convena public meeting, in order that the petition of the Board might be supported by an expression of the opiDion of the residents, when it was agreec? to leave the, matter in the hands of the Sub-committee, who would, after consultation with Mr Weston . -report to the Board at a special meeting to be held for that purpose. On Saturday we saw an Instance of presence of mind and courageous conduct, which prevented what would have resulted in a very serious accident. A drayman was driving his dray up TayStreet, when by some accident ono of bis reins' got * entangled in a portion of the harness. The horse, which wasyoung.and spirited, became unmanageable, and had started off into a gallop, when one of the constables— Brien— ran into the middle of the road, and catching hold of the horse's bridle succeeded in stopping him, although he was dragged by the horse fur a considerable distance.
