Witb regard to tbe trade with the Lake, there is a steady divergenco of business from Dunedin tolnvercagill, the increased facilities which the present stste rf the roads , aflbrd to traffic, being aovantages which cannot be overlooked. The rates of cartage tb tho Lake are £18 for horse drays, and £15 for bullock drays — the latter coming more into use lately.'
