(From the Meriting Herald, 17th Oct.) Business has been rather brisker this week*, in consequence of severa'l large -orders for New Zealand, but as stocks are still heavy, prices, with the exception of low sugars aud rice, are no higher. In flour there has been some inquiry during the last two days, and the market is decide Ily firmer, a-.d with an upward tendencv. Adelaide is quoted at £14 10s to £15 por ton. Wheat is also in better demand. All the Californian has been taken by fche mi.lers, at about Gs per bushel, and Adelaide is now quoted at 6s 6d to 6s 9 I. Liquids are still very dull of sale. Brandy (Martell's) has been quitted afc 9s 9d ; Geneva is dull, and first brands range at fvom 10s fco 10s 6d ; rum is a shade firmer, 30 o p being quoted at 3s ld to 3s 2d ; in alo and porter in bulk there is no alteration to notice. Teas — Tbe transactions in teas this week have been very limited, and prices rule about tho same as 'asfc report. Sugars arc rather firmer, particularly low sugars, which have advanced in price- In the present state of lhe market, however, quotations are difficult to give. llice is in better demand, aud best Patna is quoted at £20 to £21 pev toi. Candles ave not so firm, and sales of Belmont's have been made at 12. 1 to 12.^1 per lb. In olhT articles there has not been much doing, and prices are without any material alteration.
