DUNEDIN COMMERCIAL.
(From tke Daily Times, October 5.) This week bas exhibited no signs of improvement in prices or general tiansactions.p art ly attributable to the close of another month and quarter. The^ builrof'th'e loadirig^has gone'forwurdtotHe Later which leads to the.-; contusion that that mining district is attracting more notice. The Dunstau it-would appear commands more attention, and it is probable with a reduction in the rates' of cart- i ajje a fair amount of business will be transacted with that quarter. At. the Hogburn, trade is dull, j Tunpeka still retains its reputation as a goldfield. ■The ra'es of cartage may ; be quoted as follows :— Lake, '^-Horse team 9, L4O; do bullock do, L 35. Dunstun— Horse do, L 23 10*; do bullock do, X2O. Teviofc— Horse do, L 26. Weatherstone, L 9; -.'Tuapeka.LS. Fr-ooa and (tßaik — The few speculative inquiries have ceased, and the market may be considered easier, without any reduction in prices. Hoksk Fekd continues at. our last quotations, and as the season advances prices will rule high. Beer, in bulk, is going into consumption, but stocks continue heavy. Bass's No. 3 is now in first hands, and held for advance. Boer in glass, hns suffered a decline, and parcels have been placed at a reduction. Butteu — Tiic stocks of medium qualifies are very heavy and depressod prices, which are quite nominal according to quality. The summer season is likely still further to affect prices, especially of the qualities described. Bacon and Hams command full prices, with decidedly a tendency upwards. Sinclair's is the favorite brand, and "pa eels are sale* ble at from Is2d to Is 3dper lb. Tuedemand will necessarily increase with the approach of summer. Sugars and Tkas are dull without any change in prices. Stocks of the former are heavy, and only medium teas nre required. Spirits — Supplies of brandy are to hand and coming forward, but our importers are indisposed to meet trade offers, hence as before stated orders have -been freely transmitted to Melbourne, and the manifests, already alluded to, will shortly exhibit imports from that quarter, to compete ; with stocks on hand. Whiskey is subject to similar remarks. Stocks are too heavy for our requirements, and still it will be observed the Sunrise brings an addition from Melbourne, in the f.cfM)fthe following prices: — Kirkliston, 3s 6d to 3s 9d; Campbelltown, 4s 3d ; Islay, 4s 9<l, direct shipments from England. Other spirits, both in bulk and case, me fully supplied, and if our importers only show more liberality in prices, they would now be doing a good amount of business, and prevent any future depression in prices.
