TO THE RATE PAYERS OF INVERCARGILL. rriHE following Clause, beinsr 52 of the "InverJL cargill Town Board Ordinance, 1863," is published for the information of the ratepayers of Invercaig II: — '•' 52. Jf it shall appear to a majority of not less than two-thirds' of the ratepayers, owners, or occupiers of houses or lands in any street or part of a street, or other described and defined part of the said town, at a public meeting to be called by notice, that the execution of particular works, matters, or things, which the said Board have on good and sufficient grounds declined to execute, would contribute to the health and convenience of such part of the said town, the Board on receiving security to their satisfaction for payment of • the expense thereof, shall procure a plan and estimate of the cost of executing such works, and shall lay the same before another public meeting of such ratepayers, to be called by notice ; and if the same shall be approved and sanctioned by a majority! of such ratepayers assembled at such last mentioned meetiiTg, the Board, on receiving security for the expense thereof, or in case the Board agree to bear any part of the expense, security for the remainder, shall cause the work in question to be executed; and in the event of there not being voluntary contributions of adequate amount for . the purpose, the Board shall pay the costs, or the ratepayers' proportion of the cost, as the case may be, '; out of a special rate, to be made and- levied in r respect of the premises situated in the said part of :! such town, in such manner as the Board shall cirec-t." ■: By Order J.
