THE ARROW.
(From tho Correspondent; of the Wakatip Mail.} .yy" .September 15. The results of the meeting on Friday evening, with regard to the working of theFlat, have been very satisfactory. An-, agreement, founded on lhe proposition then: submitted to and approved by the miners, present; was drawn up ou "Saturday, and. has been Bigned by every one interested! who was in the neighbourhood at the time. Yesterday morning work commence*! in good earnest, and it was quite a pleasi ng sight to see so many men actively engaged where for months there has been but a scene of desolation. AH seem inclined to set to with a will, and it is to be hoped success will attend their united efforts, amd that the Flat will justify the expectations entertained of its richness. Sluicing having been once commenced, is now being carried on with great vigor; parties Working night and day. No information is at present in my possession as to tbe prospects obtained, but for your next issue I have little doubt to be able to give some idea of what is really being done in this way, and it will be very encouraging to the district generally ifl am able to report satisfactorily. The Township Committee held their seventh meeting last evening. No resolutions of any goneral importance were parsed. A letter was read from captain Baldwin, M.P.C., on the subject of the memorial sent in to the Government through him, urgiug the immediate formation of a dray road from the Dunstan. The hon. member gives very good hopes ofthe mat ! ter being taken into consideration at a very early period, the Superintendent having expressed a favourable opinion as to the expediency, and even economy, as far as the public service is concerned, of the extension of the main trunk line from Dunedin to Frankton via the Arrow. The Secretary also read a letter from the Chief-Postmaster, in answer to a communication from the Committee on the subject ofthe irregularity in the performance of the mail contracts via Queenstown. This I subjoin, though its contents are by no means definite: — 'Chief Post Office, Dunedm, Sept. 3, 1863. SfE, — I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 26th ulfc., with reference to the manner in which the mail con tracts between Dunedin and your township via Lake Wakatipu, are being carried oufc. In reply, I bejr to inform you thafc much difficulty has been experienced in pevforrning tbis service, both in consequence of tbes<:ate of the roads and tbe weather ; bufc that, now tbafc tbo road via theDunitan is open, ifc is intended that advantage be taken of it for mail conveyance, and it is hop°d that in future regularity will be secured. I have tbe honor to be, Sir, Your very obedient servant, Aech. Baku. Chief Postmaster. The Secretary fco the Arrow Township Committee.
