A public meeting has been called, for the purpose of taking steps to present a t< stimonial to the Chief Inspector of Sheep, as an acknowledgment of" his successful exertions in the eradication of the scab. The 10-s of several lives is reported in the country districts, through persons attempting to cross rivers swollen from the recent floods. 7th September. An address and a purse of 600 sovereigns have been presented to the Chief Inspector of Sheep in recognition of liis services in the total eradication of scab from the colon}'. There is nothing 1 doing 1 in the markets, and quotations are nominal. Bth September. The Government proceeded with their business 10-clay, .ilthongh both the Treasurer and the Attorney-General are suffer ing severely from influenza,. A dispatch was laid upon the table today, consenting to a detachment of the 4-()tli Regiment proceeding to New Zealand Temporary arrangemen (shave been made to supply the plac of the troops here. Th'i annual steeplechase lias been fixed for Thursday.
