Tho R.M.S.S. Gothenburg was unfortunately announced at the Post Office, to have been in a position of danger in the New Kiver, and that tho Mails were according affected. It has subsequently appeared that the Gothenburg was in no peril •whatever ; she simply touched the bar, and was instantly afloat again. The river is well buoyed and with ordinnry precaution, there need be no mishap for vessels of even larger tonnage than the Gothenburg.
