Young Bible. — Young B , son of his Majesty's printer, who had the patent for printing bibles in Scotland, came to an assembly at Edinburgh in a bright green suit, turned up with gold lace. This gay attire attracted universal attention, and someone ask^d Lady Wemyss who he was. She replied," Jt's only young Bible, bound in calf and gilt, but not lettered." ! A Bushranger Shot Dead. — On Thursday morning' senior-constable Murphy, i stationed at Binrla, accompanied by constable Molloy> went to the hut of a Mrs Cummins, at Menangle Creek, near Bolong, in this district, in search, of her two sons, who were suspected of having recently robbed some settlers near Taralga. After searching the place they found John, the younger of tho two, concealed in the loft. Murphy was getting up to apprehend him when he twice fired a pistol or revolver at the constables. They returned his fire, but without effect, though one of the balls he subsequently admitted grazed a leg of his trousers. He theu surrendered. The police took a horse of his mother's and mounting Cummins on it, proceeded towards Binda, Mmpliy leading the prisoner's horse, and Moloy a few yards behind. They had gone some seven or eight miles on their way and were within half a mile of Tlialaba, when a shot was fired from the bush on the roadside, which took effect on the back part of Cummin's head, just behind the ear. He fell forward, gave one groan and expired. The police did not see anyone ; but instantly after the shot was fired they heard the sound of a horse galloping away The shot was evidently intended for Murphy, who was abreast of his prisoner but the latter was between Murphy and the man that fired the shot. The deceased was only about eighteen years of age, but was a powerful young fellow, nearly six feet two inches in height ; he is described as presenting every indication of being a thorough ruffian. His elder brother, Lawience Cummins, of whom also Ihe police were in search, is supposed to have been tho person who fired, the &&Q%.-rQoul-burn Herald.
