Port Chalmers, Ota«o, calling at the Blaff. ; To wait in Melbourne for the Mail, if, detained, not more than four days, after its due date. 2. A steamer to leave Port Chalmers for Melbourne, calling at the Bluff, carrying the Homeward Mail of the Colony to Melbourne not later than two p.m. on the 16fch of each month, except February, 'and then 'on the 14th. The steamers employed must be, subject to the approval of the Government, and must be able to j maintain an average speed of not less than eight | knots an hour on each voyage. \ All Post Office Mails must be received on board | and delivered to destination free of charge. ■ Mails to be taken irom and delivered on board of the European Mail Contract Steamer in Hob- | son's Bay, «t the expense of the contractor. j -A free chief cabin passage must be at the service \ of a clerk or agent of the Post Office, on the Tequi- j sition cf the Government, and proper accommoda- j tion provided for sorting letters. The tender to state the amount of penalty recoverable for general non-performance of contract; a penalty of £100 per diem will be required for . delay in departure after the time fixed on each voyage, aod an additional penalty of £300 for failure, after such delay in delivering the home- . ward mail in Melbourne prior to the departure of the European Mail Contract Boat from that port. The tenders may state the sum for which the whole or any portion of the forementioned services will be undertaken. The contract to commence on January Ist, 1864, and to continue in force until the expiration of six calendar months' notice to be given by either of the parties to the other of his intention to determine the same; provided always that the contract shall not terminate before the 31st day of December, 1864. The tenders to be endorsed "Tenders for the Now Zealand, Mail Services," to be addressed to the Postmaster General of New Zealand, and to be posted at Dunedin not later than the lStli day o September next.
