Commerce, . pi Respectfully showeth, — ' _ |1| That your petitioners ; consider the tinj|| arrived wbyn the restrictions on the impoJ|i of cattle from ports now barred here, bu{S nised as shipping ports by the O ago Govenpi should be removed. pi That the number of stock in the ProTfif even now insufficient to supply the inbaipSj with meat, and in the anticipated increase till population in the spring, it is absolutely ||| sary that some provision should be made. p|| That the present restrictions here are sffi| guard against such prohibited cattle being ||| into this Province, while the ports of I|| are open, ' mfc And your petitioners will ever pray, &e."||| After reading the memorial a lengt||| discussion took place in regard to the p|||| supply of meat ; the present cost to thaii sumer and the difficulty of carrying oi||| present restrictive regulations while thifi| of Otago were open. His Honor consi||p that as by the last census returns, the|||| her of cattle in the province showed aß| crease of 25 per cent, upon former ie&§j§j the first point would not hold.
