Pickford and Co, General Carriers, report : — Our remark the early part of the month, that cartage would be firm, from the steady demand, has been fully borne out through the month, the only exception being the Lake. Several buyers from Queenstown being in town, the carriers availed themselves of the harvest, and carriage rose to LBS per ton, and as rapidly fell. The following rates mny be quored : — Wakatipu Lake : horse teams, L6O to L 65; bullock teams. L52 10s; Dunstan, L3l los to L 3 5; Hog Burn. L3O to L 3 5; Tunpeka and Wet herstoae, LlO to Ll4; Black's, L3O; Tcviot, L 45 to LSO.

About 4; miles from towii, the road txt-rns to the left, and from thence to Winton Bush (\% miles) the dray track should be kept, then the Survey line to the River Oreti (\1 miles); from thence follow the dray-track to the Elbow Accommodation House. By this route, 30 miles are savod, and if the Oreti is high the East Bank can be kept all the way. There is an accotnmodation house at fVallacetoion, 7 miles from Invercargill ; another at the Lime Hills, 25 miles; another at the Elbow, 54 miles ; another at Rogers, 74 miles ; and another at the foot of the Lake 92 miles.

EXPORT DUTY ON GOLD. The export duty on gold can noto be paid at the Custom House, Invercargill, or at the Bluff, but not at Riverton.
