ST. JOHN'S REDOUBT, PAPATOITOI.
* (PEOM OUE OWN COREKSrONDBHT.) On Friday, at one o'clock, the relief of the Auckland Rifles arrived at this camp. Jt consisted of about 107 men of the Ist Class Auckland Militia, under Captains Taylor and Bropby, with Lieutenants Tole, Rayner, and Ensign Moffitt. The outgoing detachments consisted, of about 91 men of the Auckland Rifles, under Lieut. Tonks and Ensign Leßoy, with a company of Onehunga Volunteers, in charge of Lieut. Lundon, the whole, about 137 in number, being commanded by Lieut. Heaphy, of the former corps. Capt. Dinriin, previous to their leaving the camp, addressed the Volunteers, expressing in a "very kind manner his regret at parting with them, and his hope of being side by side with them again before long. The Volunteer band preceded the detachment, which on its inarch everywhere met with the greatest kindness and warmth of feeling, from ihe settlers. At Remuera, the detachment was joined by the Auckland Volunteer Cavalry, under Capt. Haidington and Lieut. S. Jones, who opened their ranks riarlit'and left, and escorted the Rifles through Parnell to Princes-street, on their way to the. Albert Barracks, where they arrived at six in the evening.
At Launceston, geographical education appears to be neglected. Southland is dowered with a new capital by a writer in the. Examiner, Who, adopting the soubriquet of "Wide-a-Wake," protests against the decision of the Health Officer at. Georgetown, (Tasmania,) to put' vessels in quarantine, arriving from "Dunedin or any other port in Southland." This is even ■worse than the writer in a French paper, who represents the Chancellor^ of the Exchequer as having delivered his well known speech in Newgate ins .cad of Newcastle.
