Dangers of Screw Propellers.— Had the Orpheus been a paddle steamer, it is probably she might have got over the bar safely. The moment a screw vessel strikes she injures the stern post and bearings of the propeller, so that her machinery is useless. As the wheel is on the surface, it is not so liable to damage.
