SHORTEST AND MOST DIRECT ROUTE TO THE LAKE DIGGINGS. FORTHE INFORMATION OF NEW ARRIVALS The nearest route for pedestrians going to the Lake, is the North Road. About 4s miles from .town, the road turns to the left, and from thence to Winton Bush (\% miles) the dray track should be kept, then the Surrey line to the River Oreti (\2 miles) ; from thence follow the dray-track to the Elbow Accommodation House. By this route, 30 miles are saved, and if the Oreti is high the Past Bank can be kept all the way. There is an accommodation house at Wallacetown, 7 miles from Invercargill ; another at the Lime Hills, 25 miles; another at the Elbow, 54 miles; another at Rogers, 74 miles; and another at the foot of the Lake 92 miles.
EXPORT DUTY ON GOLD. The export duty on gold can note be paid at the Custom House, Invercargill, or at the Bluff, but not at Riverton. REMOVAL.
