BARBAROUS MURDER IN SYDNEY.

(From the Mail, July 4.)

One of the most horrible murders that it has been our painful duty to chronicle for some time past was committed in the Outer Domain ©n Saturday night. The particulars which we have been enabled to glean of the fearful tragedy are as follows :—Between ten and eleven o'clock on Satraa'day night a Mrs Margaret Gee, who at one time bore the character of being a highly respecable married woman, but who latterly has fallen into dissolute habits, went in company with another ; woman to the entrance of t'tc Domain, near St. Mary's Church, and when in 1 the vicinity of that entrance was .-* ccosted by some man, whom she accompanied in the Domain. A short time afterwards screams and a cry of murder were heard, and two men, hearing those screams, went to the spot and found the woman lying in her blood, | with some frightful wounds on her head. Tlie two men went immediately and reported the occurrence to the police, who removed the body to the Infirmary. It was there examined by the house surgeon and found to be quite dead. The wounds on the woman's head were very deep, one of them ' penetrating to the brain ; and they appeared to have been inflicted by a ! tomahawk or large sheath knife. Tv. O I of the murdered woman's fingers were severed, the hand haviug apparently been held up in defence of the head, and thus received the blow. An inquest on the body of the deceased was commenced by the city coroner on Monday, and in consequence of what, transpired, the two men, named William Yeatman and James Donnelly, who reported the occurrence to the police, were detained in custody on suspicion. The following wuuesses were examined : — Ann M'Pherson, constable Tupman, Yeatman, Donnelly, and Dr. Nathan. The inquest was then adjourned to the Thursday following, on which day several other witnesses were examined, and subsequently the inquiry was further adjourned till Tuesday, 7th instant. The men Yeatman and Donnelly were remanded to Darlinghurst Gaol.
