'' IHVERCABGILL TIMES" OFFICE, Wednesday Evening. The dulness in business which we had to report in our last month's summary continues, and with Jittle prospect of change before spring. Stocks on the diggings are in excess of demand, and no goods can bo imported to a profit whilo the winter lasts ; shipments aro still coming forward and the bulk of the goods aro only given into store, to await future demand. We cannot quote a single article for which there has been a special enquiry during the paßt month, and prices in consequence remain unchanged ; holders may bs induced by-and-bve to realise at a sacrifice, but in the meantime there is a disposition to wait for better times. The roads get worse as tie season advances, and what the rains had failed to destroy the frost is fast demolishing. Ere another winter overtake us, we Lope to see a difference in this respect, and by the very practicable and inexpensive tramway of Mr Davis, or some equally good plan, our communication with the Lake country made independent • S of the weather
