An influential meeting of gentlemen interested in 'the advancement of the colony of Victoria was held in London on the 18th March. Tim meeting was convened for the purpose of adopting some organised plan of operations in London, with a view to assist eligible emigrants to that colony, and more especially distressed operatives of the cotton districts, in procuring the necessary outfit for tlie voyage, and the means of reaching the •poTt of embarkation, and to make up the balance for "assisted passages."
