COMMERCIAL INTELLIGENCE.
LONDON WOOL "REPORT. February 24, 1863. Our market has remained in the same inactive state as noticed in our last, report. There have been but few inquiries and scarcely any sales, although holders are much disposed to sell, and ready to submit to a reduction on the rates current for January. Trade in the north is quiet, and for reallv good cloths there is little or no demand; indeed most of the fabrics requiring wool are difficult of sale, except, cood fancys for the sprinsr trade. Exceptionally trade has been very brisk in some districts in thin and cheap goods, in whieh but little wool enters ; the component narts of this rubbish consisting of cotton and shoddy, and the prices at which the article is sold (it is said for the German markets) is the best proof of "its useless nature, viz., ls 2_d to ls 2-jj-d per yard. There are already some evidences that the home -trade are -getting tired of tbo fabrics sold as cloth, and we should not be surprised if the latter articlo, is not in good demand shortly; for although the fashion has run for a long time for mixtures, it is quite evident, judging from the tone of the drapers, that hlue and black cloths, somethiug that will wear, will soon assert their former superioritv, and lead to a better demand for the raw material. The first sales of the vear are fixed for tbe 26th of this month. The arrivals to date are 2830 bales Australian ; 17,702 hales Victoria ; 820 bales Adelatde; 519'bales Van Diemen's Land; 265 bales New Zealand; and 11,200 bales Cape; total, 33,336 bales. Also 12,000 bales old wools. Gross total, 45,336 bales. The general opinion is that, with the exception of Port Phillip wools, low rates will be fullv maintained ; but in these a decline is looked for of Id to l^d per lb. The Bradford trade for fine yarns is very dull, and the principal spinners hold good stocks of combine wools from Ihe May and July sales of 1862. Sydney wools, -although •not much wanted, will sell well in consequence of the small stocks hold. — Home News.
