The import market has not opened very briskly alter the holidays, nor is any active movement looked for until after the delivery of the English mails, duo on the lHh inst. The country trade has been a fnir average one, and the loading forwarded to the interior is said to be on the increase. The flour and u'beat market continues to be steadily maintained, at the advances recently made. By auction, Messrs. Fraser rcnd Cohen offered a parcel of 260 packages tobnceo, «c Champion, from New York, and disposed of a considerable portion, although at easier rntes. Half-pounds brought 2s 4kl, and tens Is -Hd to Is 4-?d per lb: The same firm also disposed of a parcel of dnmnged teas, ex Spec — Gunpowder at Is2?,d to lsod ; yountr hyson, ll^rl per lb, duty paid: and in bond, IToang hyson, at 8d per lb for net cash ; and afterwards the Ph«nix Steam Flour Mills nt Sandridge for £I.26o.— Messrs. Oreig and Murray held n sale of miscellaneous snoods tn-flny at their rooms, and placed as follows : — Geneva, Y.IT, and C, nt 10s 6d per ense, in bond ; low qimlitv congou tea, in bond, nt l'i.Vd per lb ; dates, 2^-d to 3d per lb ; salt, fine, in packets, 2s 2d per dozen ; candles, full wciffhts, nil faults, lljd perlb; onts, colonial, ns od to nn 7d per bushel ; mustard, Taylor's, ilh, 3s 2d; snlnd oil (Whybrow's), half-pints, at 7s~2d per doz : I.N.E. matches, 2s per gross ; nnd paper ba^s, 4d per lb. Messrs. R. Perry nnd Co. sold by auction, this day, at the stores of Messrs. J. Matthews and Co., Lonsdale-stroet east, a lnree and vnried nssoriment (comprising about SSO trunks) of boots and shoes, at an advnnce of twentv-two nnd a half per cent. ; also an invoice of French leather ware calf skins. Pnris fronts, crnfts, &c.) : and thirty cases Indies' goloshes, at fifty per cent, advauce on invoice.
