ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.

WE DO NOT HOLD OUIISELVES BESPONSIIiLW FOR THE OPINIONS EXPHESBED BT OUB

CORUEgPONDENTS.

( To the Editor of the invercargill Times. )

Sik, — billow me a small space in your valuablfl journal, for the purpose of calling attention to th« present disgraceful state of a number ofthe street! leading to the back parts of the town, including' Eelviu, Deveron, and Je I streets. It is almost impossible for auy person living in either Esk, Spey, or Leet streets to reach their bo ■ eS in daylight, and it is as much as a man's life is worth to attempt it after dark. The clays are fast growing shorter, and persons residing in those streets will be compelled to run tbo risk, of a broken limb if they essay to reach their homes after the labon of the day. " Who is to blame fov this ? Is it tiia Town Board, or the Town Engineer ? Whoever is the culpriu, I hope you will lend your valuabls aid in waking theni up to a sense of their duty, as, if some steps are not immediately taken to render these streets passable, I very much foai that the coroner's billet will not be a smetura during tho winter. If all other means fail,", we ' must return members t<> the Board who reside in some of these streets, at the next election, (which I heat will shortly take place) and then I feel convinced something .will ,be done to alter the existing state of things. Trftsling you will give this a place iv your journal, I remain, Sir, Tours respectfully, Ose Who Objects Ta SwimmwoIN* WISTEE.
