PR O S PECTUS , '■(h:: the'. ■ . MKE WAKATIP MAIL, A 81-WEEKLY NEWSPAPER. HEAD OFFICE, QUEENSTOWN. IN announcing the forthcoming issue of & Newspaper, designed to represent the interests and to become the organ of the important district from which its name is taken, the proprietors would guard themselves from promising too largely in the ■■ outset of their experiment. Aware of tbe ardueus nature of their undertaking, and the amount of time and labor necessary to produce a jpurnnl, complete in its details, and worthy of the confidence of the public, they would prefer relying on the indulgence of their readers, for some short time, to' making promises difficult of fulfilment. The main object, however, of the proprietors may f be briefly stated. — In the conduct of the Was amp Maii their paramount care will be to render it I ©specially useful and indispensable to the mining community, by faithfully and diligently collecting and publishing all facts bearing on their interest, and advocating all such measures as may appear conducive to the development of this branch of industry. As a chief means of following out this purpose trith effect, the proprietors will establish a system of reliable correspondence, nofc only throughout New Zealand, but also with the sister colonies. Intelligence of tbe markets — prices current of commodities, cartnara. and all matters pertaining to trade, will be faithfhlly compiled for the immediate benefit of those merchants and storekeepers who are locatedon, or in connection with, the gold fields of this district. Whilst, therefore, raining and commercial matters shall be the chief object of the Wakatip Mau. the proprietors promise tbat the higher aims of journalism shall not be neglected, and that their earnest advocacy will be at all times ready in the support of such measures as may appear likely to contribute to the social well being, and moral and political progress of the people. Arrangements will be made to publish special editions, giving a comprehensive abstract of English and American news on arrival of the English Mail, irrespective of the ordinary issues of this journal ; knd, finally, nothing shall be left undone which can impart additional interest or advantage to the subscribers. With these few assurances the proprietojs will rest content; only expecting tbe confidence of the public in proportion as their exertions shall merit it; and as one of the miin elements of support that can be accorded by the public is that of advertising, the proprietors hope thnt the public will avail themselves, to a liberal extent, ofthe advan-, tages now offered for this nurnose, through the columns of The Wakatip Math, The Eirst Number will be issued on Saturday May 2nd. 1863.
