("Before M. Price, Esq., R.M.) Saturday. 4th April." Charge op Theft. — John Dunn was accused on the 2nd instant stolen a quanfity of apples and potatoes. From the evidence it appeared that the constable on duty at the Jetty found a number of bags of potatoes and apples which had just been lnnded, ripped open. Prisoner was in close proximity to two bundles of the edibles ready to he carried off", but on searching him nothing was fonnd on his person. The Magistrate pave him the benefit of the doubt, and with a caution dismissed the case. Mondat, 6th April. A Pevotee of Bacchus. — John M'F.lier was accused of being drunk in Don-street. John had " got a dr >p too much," and thought to have a sleep in the open air. A constable, however, considered this wns not good for his health, and accordingly took him to the lock-up, notHiths'amiin£j repeated assurances that " it was all right." A fine of 5s was imposed. Theft from a Tent. — John Rourlc was charged with stealing a meerschaum ) "pc .°nd «undry other articles from a tent in the neighborhood of Esk-street. Helier Fravel. the tennnt of the tent, deposed to leaving everything on Saturday night when he retired to rest, but nest morning (be severil articles n-pre gone. Immediate information was given to the police, who had furiously already found a clue to the culprit. Karlv fn the morning n constable noticed a man seated on the stump of a tree, enjnving a smoka from a meerschaum pipe. When the information was lodged, this individual (the prisoner) wps found in the A'bion Hotel, offering to sell a pair of hoots belonging to prosecutor. He had also transformed a pair of " inexpressibles" into nether underclothing, and thi<» fact being found out W the conat.ihle. he wis taken into custody. After hearing witnesses, his Worship adjourned the ense till next day, for the production of further evidence. Tt/esdat. 6th April. Stkattm? trow a Tent. — John T?ourk was charged with stealing sunrlrv articles of wearing npperal in Kelvin-street. The charge being fully proved, be was committed for trial. Wednespat 7th April. Tattle TiiESSPtssrxo. — Robert Whale and L. K. Grant, were fined 5s each, for a breach of the above ordinance. Thursday. 9th April. Txfbri.'.tes. — Thomas Walters and Thomas M'frnrine. were fined 10s eneh.
