The Sydney Alornin;/ Herald of today has a leading article on the subject of the Riverine Province Ti e articie closes thus : — " The proposal made by Victoria, therefore, to make these rivers navigable, places our Government in this position — they must either say no, Victoria shall not do the work, as it is our work, and we will perform it, or they must, abnegate their proper function as a Government, and admit a rival power to the performance of Governmental duties which lie within the limits of their own proper jurisdiction. The Christy Minstrels opened last niaht. Their debut in Sydney was a <>reat success ; the house was literally crammed. His Execellency the Governor and suite were present. Sydney, 18th March.
The two brothers diaries and Alex ander Ros«, convicted on the 3rd of February of shooting Mr. Stephens, at Caloola, and sentenced to death, were executed this morning.
The Volunteer Encampcnt which was fixed for Easter week is not to take place unless 500 volunteers will agree to attend.

The R.M.S.S. Northam will be detained till Monday, the 23rd instaut, in order, if possible, to allow merchants here time to reply to their correspon-
deaee.
Air. Broolcs, the captain of the Northam, K.M.S.S., is dangerously ill, and the first officer, Mr. Colldt. will take the cotnmaud of her for this trip.
The Prince Alfred has arrived from Nelson, New Zealand, with 10,649 ounces of gold. Her news is of but little importance. Matters remain as they were by last advices with regard to the natives.
The members of the Executive Council meet to-day at the residence of the Secretary for Lands, the Hon. John Robertson, to celebrate the anniversary of their third year in office. Perry, the official assignee, has this day been commited for trial for misappropriating money out of the estates of insolvents. His defalcations are said to be very large.
The gold escorts for the weekending to-day amount to 6,322 ounces.
