SHORTEST AND MOST DIRECT ROUTE TO THE LAKE DIGGINGS. FOR THE INFORMATION OF NEW ARRIVALS T. c nearest route for pedestrians going to the Lake, is tlie North Road. About 4| miles from town, the road turns to the left, and from thence to Winton Bush (IB miles) the dray track sliould be kept, then the Survey line to the River Oreti fl2 miles); from thence follow tlie dray -track to the Elbow Accommodation House. By this route, 30 miles are saved, and if the Oreti is high the East Bank' can be kept all the way. There is an accommodation honse at i| Wallace town, 7 miles from Invercargill ; another at the Lime Hills, 25 miles; another at the Elboxo, 54 miles ; another at Bogers, 74 miles ; and another at the foot of the Lake, 92 miles. EXPORT DUTY ON GOLD. The Export Duty on Gold must be paid at the Custom House, Invercargill. At present, the Gold Duty cannot be collected at the Bluff, or at Riverton. POSTAL NOTICE. MERCHANTS, BANKERS and others, willing to Subscribe for a Daily Notice of the Departure of Mails from the Post Office, are requested to communicate with the Postmaster without delay.
