(From the VnVy Timer,, 17th Jan.) The Witch of tbe Toes, the first wool ship this season for London, will clear out with SoU bales wool, 100 hides, nnd 13 hales skins. This is also the first direct gold ship of the son«on, and tak?s 21,650 ozs. 17 dwts of gold; of this rjiwitity 12,373 ozs. were shipped by t"he Bank of New South Wales, and 9,277 ozs. 9 dwts. by the Bank j of .New Zealand. A. M'Landress and Co. had tho first wool sale which has been held in Dunwlin, on Monday lust, the 12th inst., and offered 30G bales greasy wool. Tlic attendance was large and influential, and the bidding spirited ; but the business clone was small in consequence of the limits being considered a shade too" high. The sales are to be conl.inued weekly every Monday, at three o'clock, and will, no doubt, be of great advantage to the mercantile and squatting community of the Province. Several parcels of sheepskins were sold on. the same day at 4s and 3b Gi The past year has witnessed an immense development in the trade of the Province. At the close of 1861 stimulated by the gold discoveries made in the latter part of tlie year — it had already become extensive. The population had increased from 12,000 to 30,000, the exports from L 84.000 :<> £834,000. The larger and richer gold-fields opened during the latter part of tbe present year, have . given a further stimulus to all branches of industry. & ; ;i!Hiepopulatirm may now be estimated asexeeeding and the export of gold alone during the year has been 307,602 ozs., valued at £1,5-10,708. ■y*. Jjpjjere is also an increase in the Customs duties collected in Dunedin of £97,341 ; tbe amounts 1 being respectively, for 1861, £60,737; and for 1802, [ r £167,078.
